Fun Times at the Moorland Easter Party

 


 

It wasn’t just the kids who enjoyed the Easter fun at the last catch-up.  The nibbles table was most popular, and I even caught Lisa on camera during her artsy moment, colouring in Garrett’s bunny ears in a fancy ladybird design. 

 


 


The kids loved the bunny ears and the egg and spoon race the most.


Cindy’s bunny ear craft table was a favoured space, where the kids got a custom made headband before colouring in their bunny ears.  All ears made it onto the respective heads, with some having to be prised off at bedtime! 


Sammy’s long legs gave him the lead in the egg and spoon race, which he was so pleased, and surprised, to win. Nanny Naomi had an equally big grin when she got to present the winner with first choice of the chocolate eggs. 


A number of us got in last-minute guesses for the giant jar of eggs competition.  I had a good lesson about procrastination, for one of the numbers I wanted to pick was already taken….. what turned out to be the winning number… so I am gutted at having missed out on winning by 1 number! 


Thanks to Tina, there were chokoes galore, which inspired me to whip up some Choko chutney (recipe link here).


The (big) boys were busy discussing permaculture plans and how to set the world to rights when the Manning River Times photographer popped in and started snapping away.  unfortunately they managed to hide from my camera... again.

The Moorland Hall Christmas Tea & Chatter was an eventful occasion.  Along with the regular catch-up among friends over morning tea goodies, there was a special Aussie rendition of Jingle Bells from students of Moorland School and my heartfelt lyrical dance performance.   In a bid to thank locals for support, and to say goodbye to my cancer, I performed two improvised dances.  If you look closely at the videos (shown down the bottom) you can probably see my “thinking face” while I made up what to do as I went along! Meet Jimmy - A Young Local Farmer Selling Delicious Organic Milk

Since I first bought organic meat from Oxhill Organics, I have been eagerly awaiting their organic milk sales. I am pleased to announce that Jimmy Eggart  is now offering minimally pasteurised, non-homogenised milk in bottles or buckets, under the Hastings Riverlands brand. He will even deep wash and sterilise your glass bottles so you don’t have to use plastic! Currently the closest outlets are Huntingdon and Redbank but I’m trying to work my magic to get us a closer outlet, so watch this space… if you’re interested in buying, or collecting, from a local outlet please email me. Having had health issues in the past, I like to know as much as  I can about a product before ingesting it.  In the absence of being able to buy raw milk (which Jimmy said he would sell if he could, but unfortunately it is not legal) I am glad that the milk from Hastings Riverlands is  minimally pasteurised.  This means that the milk is pasturised at 65.1 degrees rather than the standard...

Are You Bushfire Ready? Get Your Free Radio

Have you updated your Fire Plan lately?  If not, now is the time to do so, with what is set to be a dry Summer approaching.  On 25th July I was glad to attend a bushfire ready workshop.  Johns River Hall hosted the event on behalf of our local Community Preparedness Network, which involves Johns River, Moorland and Hannam Vale communities. The importance of knowing what you plan to do if a Bushfire should come your way cannot be stressed enough.  Would you stay, would you go - and if so, when?  This is life and death stuff, so there's no messing around. In 2019 those of us touched by the local fires still have clear memories of how dangerous they are.  One of our friends, Daintry, from Johns River, is quick to point out that although she took steps to prepare, and planned to leave early, sometimes things happen all too quickly; and she is sure that "without the RFS ……. we would not have our home today'.             ...
